Research
My research lies at the intersection of algebraic topology, homotopy theory, combinatorial topology, and topological data analysis. Current interests include combinatorial models for homotopy theory, multiparameter persistence, and density-aware topological methods.
See the Research and Publications pages for more information.
Supervision and mentoring
I have supervised nine completed master’s students and three completed PhD students.
At the University of Bergen, I have been main supervisor for seven master’s students and two PhD students. At the University of Dar es Salaam, I have co-supervised two master’s students and one PhD student.
I have also mentored a postdoctoral fellow, Nello Blaser, now professor in the Department of Informatics at the University of Bergen.
Teaching and international collaboration
I have taught mathematics at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD level for more than twenty years.
In 2023 I taught differential topology at the University of Dar es Salaam. I have participated in the Mathematics for Sustainable Development (MATH4SDG) collaboration between the University of Bergen, the University of Dar es Salaam, and Makerere University, and I continue to collaborate with colleagues in Tanzania on topological data analysis.
