Teaching

I have taught mathematics at university level for more than twenty years, at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral level. My teaching has covered a broad range of subjects, including algebra, topology, geometry, and discrete mathematics.

Current teaching

In autumn 2026 I am teaching MAT221 Discrete Mathematics at the University of Bergen.

The course covers topics including relations, combinatorics, elementary number theory, congruences, graph theory, and related discrete structures.

Teaching materials

I develop teaching material alongside my courses, including lecture notes, exercises, and problem sheets. Where appropriate, I plan to make selected material available from this site.

Supervision

I have supervised nine completed master’s students and three completed PhD students.

Of the PhD students, I was main supervisor for two and co-supervisor for one.

My supervision has included projects in algebraic topology, topological data analysis, and related areas.

International teaching and collaboration

I have also taught outside Norway. In October and November 2023 I gave lectures on differential topology at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

Through the MATH4SDG collaboration I co-supervised a Tanzanian PhD student, and I continue to collaborate with colleagues at the University of Dar es Salaam on topological data analysis.
